Did Archimedes ever fall in love?

Eureka

When we look on the outside for meaning
no lasting meaning is ever found
no lasting meaning can be found
in that which is ever-changing

Herein lies the single biggest misconception of the human psyche … the belief we will obtain fulfilment though our interactions with the outside world. Through achievement and obtainment we will discover who we really are. Rich, famous, intelligent, good-looking … of course … all those things and more. Certainly accolades and material goods offer pleasure but before long the achievement becomes the past and the material crumbles or slips from one's grip. So we are told it is our relationships that matter … and they do; don't get me wrong … but then a loved ones leaves you or passes on. Everyone dies … death and taxes, right? Well for me ... it was the pursuit of the ideal romantic partner … when I find my soulmate I will be complete. Well it hasn't happened yet. My ideal, your ideal, only exists in the imagination.  The truth ... romantic love is but an interplay between body chemistry and our thoughts … designed to reproduce the species not give lasting happiness. Don't expect it to save you. Don't believe what the fairytales tell; there is no happily ever after. But there can be a transcendence. When one finds the self that lies within, the self that lies with everyone and everything, that lies with the immortal … the meaning is ever-lasting and always present.  Look and you shall find I believe is the phrase. Then one can celebrate the present and honour its changes even as you live it and FEEL it. Did Archimedes fall in love … I certainly hope so … but he knew that when something new is added … something old must be displaced in equal measure. There is a little physics, philosophy and poetry for you. Be well beauties.

The Poet's Task … the first tanka I ever wrote … just a little request

The Poet's Task

cleave the sky in two
slice from the world suffering
take hold and hurl it
~a disc of fear and spite~
into the coldest void of blue

Recently this poem was accused of being Utopian. Perhaps … but not quite how I see it … there is no claim that we will be delivered to a perfect world but rather that we can create a world without suffering, or at least emotional suffering ... if we face our fear and spite … if we face up to our ego. Difficulties, challenges, will always present themselves. The world, the universe, exists between creation and destruction, birth and death, calm and chaos … duality is inescapable on a material plane … but fear and spite are conquerable … they are but the stuff of thought and thoughts can be changed. Who better to help free humanity from the tyranny of thought and the ensuing suffering that follows than the poet … so keep those pens to paper people … okay fingers to keys:)

A short piece to alleviate the blues--Look Up

Look down
into old cracks
scars of ill-use
ripping open edges wide
grey lint and a rusted coin
Look up
into the sky
lit by a sun
spilling over the horizon
painting the clouds anew

Look Up

Look up is a work in comparative metaphor. Depending on your perspective the same thing can be seen as something grand and all but eternal … the clouds, the sun, and an ever-changing horizon ... or nothing but the everyday … grey lint and a rusted coin ...  fit to be cast off by the mind or worse spurned. It is all how you look at it; perspective is everything. And so it goes in our lives … with out past, present, and future.

The past--a nightmare that led to the troubles and suffering of today or a series of lessons that made one into a strong and highly-empathetic individual.

Our present--a drudgery where no one cares or understands. Or all there is and will ever be -- a chance to show those who inhabit the same space some care and understanding …a time to celebrate being together. Or maybe a time to get up and change what you don't like.

The future as always will be dictated by the choices you make in the present. It is all how you see the now.

Time, a tanka

Time
a tanka

the clock captures time

centuries turn
epochs shift

time eludes the clock

no two hands however long
can contain eternity

Is time real, invented, or imagined???

Poets, philosophers and scientist have wrestled with the concept of time for a very long … time. I see it but a system of measurement that allows points in existence--us--to coincide in the space of this reality … actually just this planet's reality. We measure time relative to the perceived reality of this planet using the humble clock. But in dreams time becomes very flexible and as you approach the speed of light … if Einstein was correct … time slows to the point of non-existence. It may be circular but scientist have yet to arrive upon the mathematical proof for such an assertion. But whatever is real ... the clock … our invention ... does not come close to doing eternity justice. In our esteem of its power … a little reserve is in order.
